October is here!
I would like to recognize that it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As you may or may not know, I am a breast cancer survivor. 10 years and going strong! I cannot express enough how important it is to get yourself checked regularly. You aren’t too young. I was diagnosed at 41 and there are countless others who are diagnosed earlier than that. Ladies, please take this seriously. I have heard many excuses like:
“I just don’t have the time to schedule a mammogram”. Seriously?? You don’t have the approximate one half hour it takes for this appointment? So what you are telling me is that you HAVE the time for weeks of chemotherapy and surgeries? You HAVE the time to take off of work? You HAVE the time to take away from your family, your children, because you are too tired to do anything?
“It hurts”. What I want to say is SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP! But I won’t. I will just tell you what DOES hurt…surgeries, getting poked with needles injecting poison into your system, mouth sores, pain throughout your body…THAT’S what hurts girls!
“I got one 3 years ago”. And??? Do you think you are safe because you have had one years ago? No, my friends, this disease can grow inside you at any time. Get yourself checked yearly. You can request this. Know your body and watch for signs. If you feel or suspect anything suspicious, check with your doctor immediately.
Please take the time for yourself and schedule your mammogram today!
I know that cancer shouldn’t be celebrated in just the month of October, but this is personal to me and I just wanted to share this with you.
Peace!
Sweet T
